Shimane Prefecture is located on the Sea of Japan side, in the San-in region. There are also Oki Island and Takeshima. The prefectural capital is Matsue City. The prefecture's fish is the flying fish.
Their specialties include Japanese sweets for the tea ceremony (such as rakugan), agonoyaki (flying fish chikuwa), freshwater clam from Lake Shinji, and Izumo soba.
Tourist attractions include Izumo Taisha Shrine, Iwami Ginzan (a world heritage site), Lake Shinji, and Adachi Museum of Art.
