Unexpectedly, Kyoto Prefecture is located in the Kansai region and faces the Sea of Japan. The seat of the prefectural government is Kyoto, the former central city of Japan. The Prefecture tree is the Kitayama cedar.
The first specialty is the yatsuhashi, the Ajarashi mochi (rice cakes), senmai-zuke (pickles), and the mugi-boro that used to be used in the old days. There are also Kyoto wagashi made by small shops in the city.
Needless to say, there are many cultural assets such as Kiyomizu-dera and Kinkakuji, and Amanohashidate, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan.
