Iwate Prefecture is located on the Pacific Ocean side of the northeastern part of Japan, along the Sanriku Rias coast. The prefectural capital is Morioka City. The county's bird is a pheasant. The prefecture is the largest in Japan in terms of area.
Specialties include Nanbu Senbei (common with Aomori), Kamome no Tamago, Sasaki no Senbei, Wanko Soba, and Morioka Cold Noodles. As for seafood (common with Miyagi), there are Hoya and Iso-Ramen.
Sightseeing spots include Konjikido of the Hiraizumi, Genbikei, Sanriku Coast, Ryusen-do, and Appi-Kogen ski resort.
